Budding harness racing youngster Soho Darknstormy (Lazarus) showed class leading all the way in winning the $100,000 Cobbity Equine NSW Breeders Challenge Blue for two year old colts and geldings at Menangle Park last night.Ā
Driven for speed by locally based trainer Rickie Allchin, Soho Darknstormy ran his rivals ragged after crossing his rivals shortly after the start. A bold move by Allchin in going for home around the 450 metres mark ensured that he had a huge break on the final bend and he maintained his momentum to beat the well supported Walter Warlock and the fast finishing Zeron who came from well back in the field to come in third placing.Ā
SOHO DARKNSTORMY REPLAY
Soho Darknstormy turned in an impressive mile rate of 1.52.1 and the fact that he could run his first quarter in a blistering 26.8 and still hold off his rivals is testament to his ability.Ā
Although Soho Darknstormy. had impressed winning his heat at Menangle in 1.55.2 punters opted for the other heat winner Matt Gregors Boy and there was solid support for Walter Warlock. Matt Gregors Boy tended to race ungenerously and never looked comfortable outside the leader and he eventually gave ground to finish last.Ā Ā
Soho Darknstormy is raced by Robert Watson who was the slot holder for beaten Eureka favourite Never Ending so the win was some consolation for the disappointment in the previous event.Ā
Soho Darknstormyās New Zealandās dam The Blue Lotus (Grinfromeartoear) raced only 15 times for two wins. Although not overly tall, Soho Darknstormy is strongly build for a two year old and reminds followers of his illustrious sire Lazarus who was a star performer andĀ leaving an indelible mark as a notable sire.Ā
The win was Soho Darknstormyās only fifth start who gives every indication of improving and will be a force for any forthcoming two year old classic events before the end of the year.Ā Ā
