In our weekly Clearing Maidens article we look through those breaking through for their first victories.
It could be a long-time maiden who has finally mastered race rivals or a progressive star of the track in the future – theyāve all got one thing in common now – theyāre race winners!
Cambridge 3rdĀ September
Power And Glory (Art MajorĀ – Breath of Life) It didnāt take long for this daughter of Art Major to show a little power to gain a little glory. After a debut third in behind Im Not The Maid on the 20thĀ of August Power And Glory turned up the heat on race rivals on Tuesday, producing a strong win from on the speed while sitting outside the race leader, a late bid by Conrad H never really threatened despite the effort wide out on the Cambridge track. Ā Dam Breath of Life once held a NZ record and snared 7 wins from her 60 starts, itās therefore little wonder that Power And Glory should have some ability out on the track.
Power And Glory shows plenty of potential in winning her maiden smartly.
Wyndham 5thĀ September
Feta Go Fernco (BetterthancheddarĀ – Betta Go Fernco) If youāre into your cheese then this maiden winner is for you! The Matthew Williamson trained mare was most impressive winning the 1st out of Wyndham on Thursday, making the most of a running-line sit to produce a striking sprint over the final furlong to win by some 3 lengths in 2.00.2 over the mile trip. Ā The nature of the debut win suggesting thereās a few more victories in the future. Dam Bettor Go Fernco won 4 race during a career of some 32 starts, her progeny now includes a winner – Feta Go Fernco being her first foal.
Muchacho (Always B Miki – Alisa) Another impressive debut winner to come out Wyndham. Supported on the tote this 5yr-old out of the Stratford barn prevailed after making a mid-race move to be on the sped with some 800m to go. A tough staying effort was asked for over the final 400m as Muchacho battled with Foxing Easton over the concluding stages to win. Always B Miki get another winner with the victory while dam, the unraced AlisaĀ (Bettorās Delight) gets her 4thĀ individual winner as a broodmare, her best known performer so far being the 9-time winner in Mucho Macho ManĀ (Mach Three) Ā Ā

Addington 6thĀ September
Party Central (Captaintreacherous – Party On) After showing trial form behind the progressive Gone Surfin last week, Party Central was favoured to win the 6th of the night out of Addington on Friday, and the son of Captaintreacherous duly delivered, leading throughout and seeing off the late bid from Sacetas to score well in a race that did possess tempo throughout the run. Party Central had been competitive in his first 4 starts running behind the likes of Got The Chocolates and Malakai. The breeding here is strong with dam Party On being a star performer on the track winning some 17 races including the G1 Breeders Crown 2YO Fillies title of 2016 at Melton and the 2017 NSW Oaks.
Party Central leads and wins at Addington.
Alexandra Park 6thĀ September
Won And Only (Captain Treacherous – Onlyforyou) Another winner by that super sire Captaintreacherous. Won And Only, a horse who had already impressed in three previous starts, staved off the stablemate Hot And Dangerous to bring up a maiden victory at Alexandra Park on Friday night. The winning habit runs deep into this family so the win may not have been a surprise to those that follow the strong bloodlines involved here. Won And Only is the 4thĀ winner from the well-performed Onlyforyou, A Bettor You (5 wins) and On A Roll (4 wins) being impressive victors included in her progeny.
Captain Sampson (Captaintreacherous – Millie Sampson) Itās that sire doing the business once again. This winner really did cap a wonderful night for the sire Captaintreacherous. The Hughes trained runner was operating fresh after a debut 3rd behind Bar Louie with the passing lane bid enough to snare the win from Lincoln Lou. Again the damline is a strong indication of the quality present here, Millie SampsonĀ (Bettorās Delight)Ā won 8 races and has gone on to produce the goods as a mother too – the Gr3 placed Millies Creation and winner of 9 in Murphys Rewards among her progeny.
Captain Sampson takes the short cuts and wins at Alexandra Park
Paradise Ali (Muscle MassĀ – Majestic Ali) A small field shaped up for the last night out of Cambridge, and , as things came to pass, Paradie Ali proved herself the best of them, making the most of manners to best race winners and take out the card ending event. Paradise Ali is the first foal and winner out of the Majestic Son mare Majestic Ali, herself an 8-time winner.
Methven 8thĀ September
Hanoi Franco (Tintin In America – Heraldic Franco) Out of an improving 4th last start behind Sandy Shore, Hanoi Franco enjoyed the trail throughout the trip in the first of the day at Methven, winning well after showing a strong burst of speed to pass race leader Delta Kilo over the final furlong of the mile race. Ā The win meant the Shennan barn celebrated its first win since 2022. This breed is well known through racing exploits of the iron horse Franco Hungtington (16 wins) and Chase The Hat Trick (7 wins)

Zsazsa Binx (Majestic Son – Zsa Zsa) Another who has been showing improvement of late, Zsazsa Binx improved one spot from a strong 2ndĀ in behind Clovelly Hill at Ashburton last week, a leading effort throughout enough to see victory obtained by over 3 lengths at the line with some favoured runners galloping in the straight making the margin of victory a comfortable one. Trotting mare Zsa Zsa was a sound performer winning 6 from 51 races – her progeny includes the 8-time winner Zachary Binx and Zsa Zoe, winner of some 14 races. This is a reliable trotting breed that knows how to win!
Bromac Times (Sir Lincoln – Grand Times) The best of times at Methven for Bromac Times. This winner, trained by Ivan Court, certainly got under the guard of punters, scoring at big odds after finding the trailing position and being strong enough to pass the favoured Festus Haggen in the run to the line to win well. Bromac Times had previously placed on 3 occasions from some 14 starts.
