Southland bred Showsomejoy (Art Major) won the biggest race of her short career on Saturday night when she took out the $150,000 Group One Vic Bred Super Series for three year old fillies at Melton.

Bred by Clark Barron under the Miracle Lodge banner, Showsomejoy is out of Barron’s good mare Somejoy (Somebeachsomewhere) which won eight of her twenty starts.

Now trained by Emma Stewart, the three year old has won six of her seven starts in Australia.

Heza Punk Rocker (Rock N Roll Heaven) bred by Southlander Sean Daly also won his final in the Super Series at Melton.

Out of RR Sand Dollar, which won seven races, the four year old gelding won the $150,000 Group One Vic Bred for four year old entires and geldings.

He also is trained by Emma Stewart, and both Showsomejoy and Heza Punk Rocker are part owned by Aaron Bain Racing and Summit Bloodstock.

Vintage Miki (Always B Miki) qualified nicely at Ascot Park on Thursday for Branxholme trainer Alister Black and the three year old gelding’s breeders and owners Lindsay and Ian Thomson.

Vintage Miki is a half-brother to Vintage Cheddar (Betterthancheddar) which won eleven races for the Thomsons and Black, including a Junior FFA at Addington. He won a further ten races in Australia before heading to America where he’s also having success.

A full brother to Bring On The Muscle (Majestic Son) also qualified at Ascot Park on Thursday. The Bruiser won his qualifying heat in 2-58.2, 6.5 seconds under the qualifying time.

The Bruiser was bred and is owned by Jackie Barron and trained by her husband Clark.

Last year’s Dominion Handicap runner-up Smokin Bandar, (Monkey Bones) will trial in the next week.

“We’ll pick a couple of races for him. We don’t want to over race him before the Dominion. He’s come back from a bit of an injury issue at the end of his last prep and it’s just a case of managing that and trying to keep him as sound as possible. So far so good,” trainer Craig Ferguson said.

Captainshavtime (Captain Crunch) continued on her winning way at Gloucester Park on Friday night for owners Murray Little and the two year old’s trainers Greg and Skye Bond.

This was the filly’s fifth win in five Australian starts.

The $150,000 Two Year Old Golden Slipper on the 27th of this month is now a likely target.
