Highly fancied Mick Danger (Captaintreacherous) didn’t let his supporters when he took out the time honoured $50,000 Club Menangle Carousel Pacers Final at Menangle last night. A model of consistency this was Mick Danger’s most important win to date.
Perfectly rated by driver Jim Douglass, and an easing fin the betting to start second favourite Mick Danger was restrained back at the start for a trail one out and one back.
After his Heat win Jim Douglass stated that “he’s been racing really well in those big races over the Carnival” and that reflected the confidence going into the Final which he duly saluted.
The Jason Grimson trained Dom Toretto commenced from the pole and driver Jack Callaghan had little trouble in holding the lead. However no sooner had he settled down Cameron Hart on the well supported favourite Speculating whizzed around the outside to take the lead with just over a lap to travel.
But he didn’t get much breathing space as he was matched along the back straight by Our Sunset Delight and he was a sitting shot for Dom Toretto who moved out at the top of the home straight to take the lead. However Mick Danger came with a well timed burst to score a comfortable win by just under six metres.
MICK DANGER REPLAY
Mick Danger is prepared by prominent trainer Ian Wilson who has enjoyed a long and successful trainer driver relationship with Jim Douglass.
The four year gelding is destined for better races to come.
Affaire De Cover’s whirlwind finish at big odds
Meanwhile the Club Menangle Carousel Trotters Final proved to be a boilover when Affaire De Cover (Love You) belied his previous form when he finished brilliantly to take out the coveted event in a blanket finish.
The six year old already a veteran of 128 race starts was taken back to the rear of the field by driver Chris Geary. The favourite Rogue Gentleman worked around the field to take up the lead with a lap left to travel. But all was not well with the favourite and he broke up when under pressure allowing Affaire De Cover to grab victory just ahead of the ever consistent Satin Stride who failed by just under a head thus denying driver Jim Douglass a historic Carousel pacers and trotters double.
AFFAIRE DE COVER REPLAY
Aldebaran Jensen also come from well back in the pack to take out third placing.
Prepared by South Windsor trainer Troy Williams Affaire De Cover has been a prominent trotter on the New South Wales trotting scene and deserved his feature success.
