MONTICELLO, N.Y.— Harness racing amateur driver Alan Schwartz capitalized off a pocket ride with 1-5 favorite Doo Wop Kid (Wishing Stone) to win the $7,500 North American Amateur Drivers Association (NAADA) Trot at Monticello Raceway on Wednesday (Oct. 3).
Starting from the pylon post, Schwartz pushed Doo Wop Kid forward and secured a seat behind Pilsner Frosty (driven by Paul Minore) after a :29.4 first quarter. Doo Wop Kid stayed steady from the pocket while Pax Hanover (Charles Longo) made a move to race first over into a 1:00.4 half, though he quickly stalled in his bid.
Pilsner Frosty continued unpressured to three-quarters in 1:30.4 as Schwartz waited to make his move with Doo Wop Kid. Schwartz sent his charge after the leader spinning for home and zipped by and away to a 2-1/4-length victory in 2:00.1. Pilsner Frosty held second from Mufasa As (McKenzie Sowers), who sat a ground-saving trip for third. Reel Em In (Robert Krivelin) took fourth, another nine lengths behind.
Alan Schwartz owns and trains Doo Wop Kid, a 5-year-old gelding who paid $2.60 to win.
