Branxholme harness racing trainer Nathan Williamson took four horses to the races at Ascot Park today and won with three of them.

The most impressive win was from two year old filly Captains Mistress (Captaintreacherous) who took out the Walker Murdoch Law Limited Fillies and Mares Mobile Pace.

CAPTAINS MISTRESS REPLAY

“It worked out great and she was able to join in when she wanted to,” Williamson said.

The filly’s next target is a heat of the Dunstan Horsefeeds Sires Stakes in Ashburton.

“It’s in a couple of weeks. That will bring her on a bit and she should be cherry ripe for Cup Week.”

The second win came with trotter Flying Without Wings (Pegasus Spur) who won his second race in as many starts.

FLYING WITHOUT WING REPLAY

“He trotted good. We made a few wee changes and we can give Franksie (farrier Brendon Franks) a pat on the back there. He’s done a good job.”

Flying Without Wings won the R35-R65 Handicap Trot by a length from Bill Bootit.

He’s now won five races in a relatively short career for Neville Cleaver.

The trifecta of wins came in the ninth race when three year old Miraculous (Bettor’s Delight) led and was too strong, winning by two and three quarter lengths.

MIRACULOUS REPLAY

“He was quite lazy in front. He got easily through the middle and he zipped home. He didn’t have a hard race so it was nice.”

Both Miraculous and Captains Mistress are owned by Australian Mick Boots who was on-course today.

“It was a long term plan to have his horses racing today so It couldn’t have worked out better.”

Williamson is still deciding what to do next with Miraculous.

“The Tuapeka Cup is here in a fortnight but I’m a bit cautious with him from the stand. He can be a bit hit and miss but once he’s away he’s good.”
