CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Howmac Charger (Bet The Moon) turned a second-over tow into harness racing glory in the Home Hardware Maritime Breeder’s stake in the first part of a special Saturday doubleheader at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Race favourite Saulsbrook Inferno (Driven by David Dowling) went to the lead in her $31,600 Home Hardware Maritime Breeder’s two-year-old pacing filly dash and led through splits of 29.2, 1:00.1 and 1:30.3 before Howmac Charger (Corey MacPherson) made a mad dash to the wire to win in 2:00.2. Saulsbrook Inferno was second with Red Dirt Rock It (Mike McGuigan) third. Paul Conway co-owns and trains the winning daughter of Bet The Moon with co-owner Zach Conway.
Never Shui Never (Pang Shui) remained a perfect four-for-four in her $31,600 Home Hardware Maritime Breeder’s two-year-old pacing filly event in for trainer-driver Gilles Barrieau and owner Nikway Farms in 1:58 over Howmac Maleficent (Ken Murphy) and Jafetica (Myles Heffernan Sr.).
The first $22,400 Home Hardware Maritime Breeder’s two-year-old pacing colt division went to Rosetown Eclipse for trainer-driver MacPherson and owners Rosetown Stable, Jim Gorman and Mike Gorman in 1:58.1 over Woodmere Rocketman (Barrieau) and Phil My Beer (Marc Campbell).
One Can Dan pulled an 11-1 upset in his $22,400 Home Hardware Maritime Breeder’s division with a 1:58.2 clocking for owner-driver Redmond Doucet of Nova Scotia and trainer Lennan MacIsaac. Dilicious (Barrieau) nabbed second over race favourite Here On Earth (Adam Merner).
Malevolent romped for trainer-driver Paul Langille in the final $22,400 Maritime Breeder’s two-year-old pacing colt division in 1:54.3, just two-fifths of a second off the track record. The son of Malicious increases his stats to nine wins from 10 starts for owners Rosanne Langille and Debbie Francis. Second went to Like A King (Dowling) with Sergeant Crowley (Barrieau) third.
