Once again up and coming trotting star Bet N Win (What The Hill) underlined his quality and his future potential when he impressively took out the $40,000 Group Three What The Hill Ashburton Trotters Sprint at the Ashburton harness racing meeting today.

Driver Bob Butt took the David and Stacey White trained trotter straight to the front as expected, and the four year old was too good, winning by two lengths from one of the outsiders Fiery Bandito. Second favourite Oscar Bonavena who bobbled at the start ran home strongly for third.

BET N WIN REPLAY

“He was safe and that’s the main thing. And we capitalised on Oscar not getting out as good as they hoped. But you’ve still got to get out and do it and the hoods still on, so that’s a good sign heading into the second Tuesday in November (Cup Day) fingers crossed,” Stacey said.

The winning time was 2-02.0 with the last 800 metres cut out in 56.3. The race and track record of 1-59.6 for the 1700 metre mobile is held by 2021 winner Muscle Mountain.

White said Bet N Win will stay close to home leading into the Renwick Farms Dominion Handicap.

“We’ll play it pretty quiet now. We’ll tick over at home. If we need to we may take him for an outing but we’ll skip Kaikoura and the Cup Trial.”
