Classy colt Sweet On Lexy (Sweet Lou) notched yet another harness racing classic when he led all the way to take out the Club Menangle Rod and Fran Fitzpatrick Tatlow Stakes at Menangle Park.Ā
Backed into a short priced favourite, Sweet on Lexy charged to the lead after a short early battle with Duty of Care who elected to take the trail behind the leader.Ā
From then onwards Sweet on Lexy was perfectly rated by driver Bernie Hewitt and the gelding sprinted away to score a comfortable win over Duty of Care with outsider Double It Harry a distant third.Ā
Heza Malteeza who had some support as second favourite had a good trail but could not improve at the business end of the race and he finished back in sixth.Ā
Earlier in July Sweet on Lexy took out the Paleface Adios at Albion Park and has always displayed above average ability. The mile rate of 1.50.8 was easily his best time during his career and he should come back better as a three year old.Ā
SWEET ON LEXY REPLAY
Duty of Care battled on well for second and his run suggests that he should take out another two year old event soon.Ā
Earlier on Bathurst based Hewitt indicated that Sweet on Lexy had always shown ability and that he had a number of issues which were now sorted out.Ā
