Louis-Philippe Roy, in the midst of four straight wins on Monday’s (Nov. 4) harness racing card Woodbine Mohawk Park, started a sweep of the Harvest Series Finals with a 12-1 upset.
Despite the odds, Roy gave Bright Green (Green Manalishi S) a confident steer in the final for rookie trotting fillies. A gapped-off third at the quarter in :27.4, the filly slingshotted to the top on the backstretch, taking the lead before the half in :57.4.
She tussled with Stormont Beautiful (Brett MacDonald) to three-quarters in 1:26.3, and those two battled in their own world to the finish. Bright Green allowed her opponent only slight headway in the stretch, powering home to win by three-and-a-quarter-lengths in 1:55.4.
Stormont Beautiful was a hard-fought second. Stovid (Tyler Borth) completed the ticket.
BRIGHT GREEN REPLAY
Bright Green’s win was her second in 10 starts for owners Ecurie CSL and Louis-Philippe Roy Racing. She finished first in leg one and fifth in leg two of the series. Eric Nadeau has trained the filly to $49,389 in earnings.
Roy executed similar tactics in the twin final for two-year-old filly pacers. He fired Outtathisworld Deo (Bettors Delight) to the front before the half, and was in total control until coming under fire from My Happy Place (Bob McClure) in deep-stretch. My Happy Place made a strong late bid, but Outtathisworld Deo hung on to win by a head in 1:53. Sugar Pie Honey (James MacDonald) surged from the back for show.
OUTTATHISWORLD DEO REPLAY
Outtathisworld Deo, a Chantal Mitchell-trained filly, is three-for-nine with $45,690 in earnings. The Ontario Sires Stakes finalist won the second leg of the series after a show finish in the opener. Deo Volente Farms owns and bred the filly.
Roy tallied five total wins on the night, half of the races on the card.
Woodbine Mohawk Park will host its next card on Thursday, Nov. 7, featuring the Harvest Series finals for two-year-old colts and geldings.
