Resilience (Jimmy Freight) cruised to victory in the first harness racing division of the Ontario-sired Harvest Series for three-year-old pacing fillies on Friday (Nov. 8) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Louis-Philippe Roy got the filly to the front at the quarter, stepped on the gas after a soft second panel, and the filly kicked clear at the top of the stretch en route to a three-length victory in 1:53.3. Laneside Incontrol (James MacDonald) finished second after a break behind the gate. Big Nipper (Mike Horner) was third.
RESILIENCE REPLAY
Resilience earned her first cheque since June with the victory, her second of the season. The 2023 Jimmy Freight Stakes winner is now six-for-15 for trainer Eric Nadeau with $177,636 in earnings. She is owned by Louis-Philippe Roy Racing, Ecurie Francis Richard, and Ecurie CSL.
Definingthe Moment (Control The Moment) battled to victory in a tough stretch-drive in the second division. She led for James MacDonald from the first turn into the stretch, coming under first from the first-over Kiera Seelster (Jonathan Drury) at the top of the lane. As the leader edged away from that rival, Rocks Shadow (Travis Cullen) emerged with a late charge, but Definingthe Moment held on by a neck for the 1:53.2 victory.
Rocks Shadow finished second with First Cast (Doug McNair) a length back in third.
DEFININGTHE MOMENT REPLAY
Definingthe Moment is on a hot streak, having hit the board in seven straight starts with four wins in that span. The filly, trained by Roger Mayotte, has won five times in 25 career starts and has earned $64,420. Mayotte co-owns her with Ben Mudry, Louis Liebenau, and Larry Curtis.
The next leg of the Harvest Series for sophomore pacing fillies is set for Nov. 15.
Racing continues at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 7:10 p.m. EST.
