Promoted as a “monster sale,” Preferred Equine Online (PEO)’s Mixed Sale held Monday, Nov. 18th did not disappoint. Numerous records (price, gross, number of entries, registered bidders, number of bids) were set, attracting harness racing viewers from around the globe.
Selling as a partnership dissolution, two-time Breeders Crown champion filly My Girl EJ (Sweet Lou) p,3,1:48.1-’24 ($1,458,040) led the way, selling for $758,000 to Andrew Harris, agent for William Pollock, Bruce Areman and Harris. Previously owned by trainer Ron Burke with breeders Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi and Elizabeth Novak, the three-year-old is a multiple Grand Circuit stakes winner and set the 1:49.1 all-age female world record on a half-mile track when she won the elimination heat of the Jugette at the Delaware County Fair and recently captured her second Breeders Crown title at The Meadowlands.
Pollock, Areman and Harris held the previous sales price record on PEO’s sales site when they purchased Abuckabett Hanover in the fall of 2022 for $534,000. Since then, he has been a multiple stakes winner, increasing his career earnings to more than $1,800,000, with his latest win on the eve of Monday’s sale when he captured the Potomac Pace for free-for-allers at Rosecroft Raceway.
My Girl EJ’s dam, Lucy’s Pearl, sold in foal to Sweet Lou for $356,000 to Greg Luther. The stakes-winning mare is also the dam of millionaire and Little Brown Jug champion Lou’s Pearlman as well as $100,000+ winners Loukes Perry and Lousain Bolt — all by Sweet Lou. Greg Luther also purchased the weanling Sweet Lou colt Lounado for $250,000, while BWB Racing purchased her yearling Sweet Lou colt Generationalwealth for $140,000.
A pair of Ontario trotting stars also sold for six figures as broodmare prospects. Two-time O’Brien Award winner Adare Castle 4,1:52s ($1,100,021) was purchased by 30 Plus Stable of Ontario for $228,000, and recently retired two-time O’Brien Award finalist HP Mama B 4,1:51.4s ($692,011) sold to Armitage Farm of Kentucky for $150,000.
A share in trotting sensation Walner led that category, selling for $314,000 to Ecurie Jean Pierre Barjon of France. Shares of Captaintreacherous and Sweet Lou rounded out the group, selling for $86,000, $85,000 and $83,000 respectively.
