Over Ice (Custard The Dragon) made it a double as she went all the way to win the second leg first division of the Mary Murphy BC-bred Stake on Thursday (Nov. 21) at Fraser Downs.
Phil Giesbrecht guided the filly to the top, where she remained for the rest of the mile. Neither Catchmegracefully (Glenn White) or the closing Vintage Lass (Kelly Horedt) could make a serious impact in the stretch, and Over Ice strolled across the line with a length-and-three-quarters to spare in 1:55.2. Vintage Lass got up late for place.
OVER ICE REPLAY
Over Ice, the show finisher in her divisionās Alberta Sires Stakes Super Final, is now nine-for-20 lifetime for owner/breeder JJJ Stables. She swept the BC-bred Stake at two and has now earned $182,313. Jim Marino trains the sophomore filly.
Cheyenna Acero J (Chucaro Acero Bc) flew down the lane to land a 20-1 upset in the second division. She was fifth from the first turn to the final turn but was loaded with pace coming into the stretch. Hoerdt directed her into the passing lane and let her loose, and the filly motored up the pylons to win by a neck in 1:56. The favoured Senorita Draco (Phil Giesbrecht) was second, followed by Martini Please (Rod Therres) in a three-across finish.

The winner has three tallies her debut season and has collected $21,505 in 18 tries. Margaret White trains the homebred filly for Bryant Hibbs.
Nothininmoderation (Custard The Dragon, Dave Hudon) produced the upset of the colt and gelding divisions, pocket-riding in the first to win at 12-1. The gelding found the passing lane and reeled in leader Buddy Knocks (Scott Knight), reaching up in the final strides to score by a head in 1:54.2. Key Dragon (Horedt) was fourth placed third.

It was Nothininmoderationās fifth career win in 33 starts The gelding, trained by Hudon, had earned $38,070 for John Carey, James Williams, William Howard, and Ross Rees.
Wannabeabigstar (Shadow Play) captured the second split convincingly for driver Phil Giesbrecht. He took over coming off the first turn and led for the remainder, cruising clear to a three-and-a-half-length victory in 1:54. Nothing Bugs Me (Therres) held second after a pocket trip with Thereallkents (Hudon) completing the ticket.
WANNABEABIGSTAR REPLAY
Wannabeabigstar has so far repeated his performance at two, in which he won the first two legs of the series. Jim Marino conditions the gelding and co-owns him with JJJ Stables and Paul Sanders. The sophomore has earned $39,505 and won five of 13 career appearances.
Grey Sea (Custard The Dragon, John Abbott) made it three straight Fillies and Mares Preferred victories on the card as she went coast-to-coast. The mare was a length-and-a-quarter the best in 1:53.2 over Ima Beach Diva (Hoerdt). The Gordon Abbott-trained Grey Sea is 22-for-56 lifetime with $174,550 in the bank for Seaspray Stables of Nanaimo.
