Prohibition Legal made front first for Louis-Philippe Roy, heading the field to the quarter in :28.2 with Silver Label (James MacDonald) sitting fourth. Dabarndawgswatchin (Trevor Henry) rolled up from third to take over before the half in :57.1, and Prohibition Legal shifted out to attack on the final turn.

She regained the advantage at three-quarters in 1:24.2 and put Dabarndawgswatchin away coming down the stretch. Silver Label, who had her barnmate’s cover, stuck with her into the final eighth but ran out of gas. Prohibition Legal rolled home to score by two-and-a-quarter lengths in 1:52.

Dabarndawgswatchin finished third, three lengths further back of Silver Label.

PROHIBITION LEGAL REPLAY

Prohibition Legal is now three-for-17 this season for trainer Nick Gallucci. The former O’Brien Award winner has racked up 13 victories and $1,114,305 in earnings from 39 career starts.

There were also two first-leg Valedictory Series divisions for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings. Southwind Infusion (Always B Miki, Jody Jamieson) upset at 40-1 the first, catching favourite Brudon (MacDonald) on the line by a nose. Gandalf The Bay (Henry) was third. It was the winner’s sixth victory in his 28 starts in his debut season. Ashley Lendvoy trains him for Gino Toscani.

SOUTHWIND INFUSION REPLAY

Lotto Max (Bettors Delight, Roy), coming off a place finish in the Harvest Series Final, went coast-to-coast in the second division. He was home in 1:57.1, three-quarters-of-a-length to the good over Betthebeach Yankee (Daryl Thiessen). Jmr Speak Away (Jonathan Drury) finished third. Lotto Max, also a three-year-old rookie, is two-for-18 for trainer Dale Fritz, who co-owns with Edward Acheson.
