Sweet Angel Boy (Sweet Lou) benefited from a perfect harness racing journey and won the Blue Hen/Open Handicap Pace at Bally’s Dover on Thursday night.
Mack left quickest along the pylons early. Sweet Angel Boy accepted the pocket. The 4/5 betting favorite Itsrockandroll A, who parlayed a five race win streak going into the race, left from post six. He was able to find a seat in third approaching the quarter pole.
Mack cut out the early fractions of 26.2 to the quarter. The half was reached in 54.4, a 28.2 quarter. Midway up the backstretch, Itsrockandroll A, grinded 1st up and was in attack mode. Captaincountrystar shadowed 2nd over and Sweet Angel Boy viewed the action from the pocket. Mack and Itsrockandroll A raced side by side passing the three quarters in 1:23.1, a 28.2 quarter.
In mid stretch Itsrockandroll A cleared the lead. However Sweet Angel Boy was able to save ground along the pylons, and won by a half length in 1:52.1
He paid $7.20 for the win.
