Promising harness racing pacer Miki Pins (Always B Miki) showed class when he took out the Slingsby Holdings Brian Hancock Championship Final last night at Menangle Park. Miki Pins despite his recent good form was second favourite behind the speedy Bainbridge.
Prepared by the all successful Jason Grimson stable for owner Michael Boots, Mike Pins was not bustled up early by driver Jack Callaghan who allowed the gelding to settle before setting him around the field.
In the meantime Bainbridge used some energy in taking the lead from Keayang Wasabi who was content to eventually take a trail.
Bainbridge still looked to be travelling well on the final bend but Miki Pins was roused up and he gradually got the better of Bainbridge to score by 4 metres with El Camino running on for third.
Jack Callaghan stated āHe switches on and off. He only switched on at the top of the straight. He always feels as if heās plenty of speed. I conserved him and he finished on at the end of the race.ā
MIKI PINS REPLAY
Miki Pins has been relatively lightly raced in his career. He was prepared at the beginning of his racing by Blake and Ellen Jones from Narrandera and he only recently moved to Jason Grimsonās stables in mid November where he is unbeaten in his last three appearances.
Bainbridge who had been flying lately was far from disgraced but found the winner too strong. Thereās every indication heās a budding star in the rising.
