Both horse and driver walked off the track under their own power after an accident in the first harness racing contest at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Friday (Dec. 27).
Pocket-sitter Parsons (Travis Henry) lost ground as he went off stride approaching the final turn, forcing evasive action from his opponents. As Sand Walker (Dwain Spitzig) shifted right, Backstreet Boogie hit his wheel and fell. Garrett Rooney was unseated from the sulky.
According to the AGCO race report, the horse sustained “only minor abrasions,” and Rooney continued to drive on the night with two wins after the accident. Jimsun (Lorne House) won the first race by a half-length in 2:02.4.
After the ninth race, the track lost power, forcing the cancellation of the finale.
