This coming Sunday will be the 2025 edition of the monte classic Prix de Cornulier where 18 entrants will battle over 2700 meters for the 700,000€ purse. The field as of now is set below.
On the early wagering Ideale du Chene is given a 29.9% chance of victory followed by 21.8% for Gazelle de Val, 13.6% Joumba de Guez and 11.7% for Ina du Rib.
Race results follow since 2011.
The Prix de Cornulier (Gr. I International monte, purse 700,000€, 2700 meters, 18 starters ages 4-11) race began in 1931 and remains the major monte race in the world. The fastest winner to date in 1.11.2kr set in 2019 by the Jean Pierre Barjon owned Biibili. There have been four winners of the Cornulier and Amerique back to back, Tidalium Pelo, Bellino II, Jag de Bellouet and Masina. There have been five three time winners, Jag de Bellouet, Kaiser Trot, Bellino II, Gardon and Souarus.
The leading Cornulier jockey and trainer have both earned eight victories, the jockey being Jean Mary and the trainer is Joel Hallais who sends out Hirondelle du Rib in the 2025 race off a second place finish in ’24 Cornulier to Esperanza Idole the then 10 year old daughter of Champion Fan Idole he second to last carer start.
