Electric Amadeus (Rockin Amadeus) returned to the top overnight harness racing level of Century Mile and remained unbeaten on the year with a front-end victory in the Fillies and Mares Preferred-2 on Wednesday (Jan. 15).
The mare pushed forward from the two hole for James Jungquist and snagged the lead while putting up a :28.3 first panel. Logan Gillis brought out Bares All as the field came down the backstretch, and that mare advanced through the half in :58.3.
Bares All was a thorn in the leaderās side to three-quarters in 1:27.4, racing abreast with her at that third station. Electric Amadeus wrested back control as they came into the stretch but was pursued by Bares All and pocket-sitter Wild Blue Wonder (Jean Francois Gagne). Longshot Sunshineatthebeach (Jamie Gray) took flight from the backfield and gained rapidly in deep-stretch, but Electric Amadeus held her off to win by a half-length in 1:57.1.
Sunshineatthebeach was second, followed by Bares All.
ELECTRIC AMADEUS REPLAY
Electric Amadeus is two-for-two in the new year for trainer Brinsley Brooking Lutz, who co-owns her with Harvey Jaeger. The nine-year-old has racked up 29 wins and $147,609 in earnings in 93 career starts.
The Preferred-2 win began a natural hat trick for Jungquist, Brooking Lutz, and Jaeger. Kiss My Bet (All Bets Off) romped in the sixth for the pair, and their Outrageous N Fancy (Outrageous Art) scored by a nose in the seventh.
The next card at Century Mile on Saturday, Jan. 18 will feature Western Canada champion Shark Week in the Preferred. Racing will begin at 6:15 p.m. EST.
