It’s understood that two high profile American harness racing owners, Gordon Banks and Marc Hanover, will attend next month’s NZB Standardbred Sales in Auckland and Christchurch.
“They sent me a text a week ago and it was along the lines that they’re coming to have a look. I’m sorry, they’re not going to come all the way from Florida just to look,” commented HRNZ CEO Brad Steele.
Gordon and Marc are cousins, and have already purchased some of New Zealand’s best bloodstock, including Amazing Dream and American Dealer.
American trainer Nancy Takter is also heading to New Zealand and will attend the Karaka sale. She’ll then head over to Australia to check out their harness racing scene before taking in the Ladbrokes Ultimate Drivers Series at Albion Park which is held on February 21st and 22nd.
New Zealand Junior Drivers Champion Carter Dalgety will look after her on the trip.
Takter trained Karl to win the $1.4 million Hambletonian in early August, becoming the first female trainer to win consecutive Hambletonians.
In all she’s had 822 wins as a trainer and stakes earnings of $42,598,477. And she’s won eleven Breeders Crowns. Quite an achievement.
