Wayne Comerford is an astute horseman who breeds youngsters exclusively for commercial sale and he has a yearling colt in the Ipswich sale with the best of modern bloodlines that should attract the attention of bloodline buffs.

Lot 113 is a colt by the ill-fated American Ideal out of outstanding Art Major mare Indigenous Art, who has already produced five winners including NSW Golden Mile winner Jimmy Locke (1.50.1, $293K).
This cross of American Ideal over an Art Major mare is rapidly becoming a golden cross.
It has produced 66 winners in Australia, including WA Pacing Cup winner and emerging sire Soho Tribeca (1.53.8, $1.1M), Maximus Red (1.51.6, $448K), Centenario (1.53.4, $332K) and tough mare Simply Shaz (1.56.7, $225K).
In America, this cross has produced American Courage (1.47.8, $836K) who was one of the leading 3YOs in 2021, winning the Messenger Stakes and the Reynolds Stakes.
This colt’s dam is a half sister to The Grouse (1.55.4, $188K), winner of 32 races – five as a 3YO.
Comerford said the colt was a little on the small side by was well put together. There are just two American Ideal colts in the sale.
“He was a late November foal, so he is maturing but he is a nice type,” he said.
Commerford’s second offering at the 2025 APG Ipswich Yearling Sale on February 9 is a filly, Lot 121, from his good producing broodmare Oh So Hippe by multi-millionaire sire McWicked.
Oh So Hippe’s 2024 filly was bought for $30,000 by leading Victorian trainer Emma Stewart last year.
Both fillies are half sisters to good youngster Hipstar (1.54.6, $121K). The Auckland Reactor gelding has won 15 races and was placed in the Qbred 2YO colts final.
Oh So Hippe is a half sister to the dam of speedy WA mare Paroquet (1.56.4, $143K), winner of the Group 3 The Lewis final.
“We breed to sell, not to race, and temperament and correct feeding is very important,” Comerford said.
“We handle them from an early age – start trimming their feet at four weeks and get them leading alongside mum.
“They are up to their knees in green feed here but we also feed them quality supplements to ensure they are well grown and athletic, with clean joints.”
