Monday March 17 at Pinjarra boasts a fantastic harness racing program with not only the Regency Food Mount Eden Sprint highlighting the program, but also the newly named Dr Ed Dewar Golden Girls Mile.

With the recent passing of Dr Dewar, the club found it fitting to name the $35,000 Golden Girls Mile in his honour with his incredible contribution to not only racing in WA but breeding as well.

“The ‘Doc’ had been a club member at Pinjarra for many years, and an icon for breeding and racing here in WA and it is our privilege to be able to honour him and all he achieved in the WA breeding industry by naming this fillies and mares race after him.” Pinjarra Trots General Manager Dale Putland said.

Dr Ed Dewar sadly passed away on February 28 after a battle with illness, but his legacy will continue for many years to come with his synonymous Whitby stud name carried throughout many breeding lines here in the west.

His story in the WA harness racing industry began in the 1970’s when he took a leap of faith and purchased Remit for $10,000 (the equivalent to around $115,000 today).

Remit went on to win 18 races, 11 of which were for Dewar here in WA, for $40,000 in stakemoney but her name still continues to feature in the pedigrees of many of her descendants.

Pinjarra Trots General Manager Dale Putland is gearing up for their meeting in 12 days’ time, with Regency Foods offering a $10,000 incentive for the winner of the Mount Eden Sprint should it break the 1:50:00 mile rate in the $50,000 Group 3 Feature.
