Captain calls the shots in Supremacy heat

The Cran and Chrissie Dalgety trained Captain Commodore (Captain Crunch) looks like a serious contender for April’s Alabar Southern Supremacy Stakes Final after impressively winning the second heat of the series at Ascot Park today.

The three year old ventured south after a very good win at Addington at the end of last month.

“His first up run was good. It was a strong maiden field, he sat parked the whole way and jogged it with the plug in,” driver Carter Dalgety said.

He added that today’s race was another step up and that the gelding impressed him again.

“He’s still a bit green in front. When he dashed to the front, he knocked off. So I think there was a wee bit left.”

The winning margin at the end of the 2200 metre trip was one and a quarter lengths with another son of Captain Crunch, Captain Amore, finishing second.

CAPTAIN COMMODORE REPLAY

Captain Commodore was purchased at the 2023 Yearling Sales when offered by Spreydon Lodge.

“He was a very nice two year old but we decided to give him a bit of time. He had a start as a two year old but was quite sick so we gave him a long break. He had two trials this time and was faultless. His first up run at Addington was brilliant and today’s was even better.”

The owners of Captain Commodore include the Patterson Bros Racing Syndicate and the Centaurus Syndicate.

The Centaurus Syndicate owns a piece of quality mare Duchess Megxit.

“We’ve also got some of our loyal clients in the horse. It’s a great bunch of fun loving racing people.”
