Winbak Farm is saddened to report the passing of Thong, p, 2, 1:53.3s; 3, 1:50.2 ($705,185). Thong died from foaling complications on February 24th. She was 20 years old.

“Thong was a talented racehorse and a productive broodmare,” said Jack Burke, General Manager. “She also had a sweet personality and was a great mare to be around.”
Thong was bred by Stonegate Standardbred Farms LLC of Glen Gardner, New Jersey.
As a racehorse, Thong had 10 wins. At 2, Thong earned $332,857. She won the Debutante Stakes at The Meadowlands, Eternal Camnation at Mohawk, and Shes A Great Lady Stakes elimination (second in Final) at Mohawk. She was second in Champlain Stakes division at Mohawk and third in Matron Stakes elimination at Dover Downs and Molly Pitcher Stakes at Freehold. She was trained by A. Toby Lynch Jr.
At 3, Thong earned $351,428. She won the Fan Hanover Stakes consolation at Mohawk, Lismore Stakes elimination and Final at Yonkers, Mistletoe Shalee Stakes elimination at The Meadowlands, Pennsylvania Sire Stakes at The Meadows, Tarport Hap Stakes at The Meadowlands. She was second in Helen Dancer Memorial division at Freehold and third in Fan Hanover Stakes elimination at Mohawk and Jugette heat at Delaware County Fair. She was trained by Kevin Lare.
Thong was purchased by Winbak Farm at the 2015 Harrisburg Mixed Sale and resided at the Maryland farm.
“Thong stood out to us in the Harrisburg Mixed Sale catalog due to her talents on the track and the productivity she had already showed with the foals she had already having success on the track,” said Joe Thomson, Winbak Farm Owner. “She continued to be a successful producer and produce good looking foals year after year.”
From 10 foals of racing age, she has produced Cheekie, p, 3, 1:52.3s ($135,188), High And Tight, p, 2, 1:53f ($131,037), V String, p, 2, 1:52.3f ($104,857), Kitty Hoyne, p, 3, 1:52.4f ($81,580), and Seaside Baby, p, 3, 1:55.1f -’23; BT1:51.2-’23 ($46,606). She is the grand-dam of Secret Side Piece, p, 1:50.4f -’23 ($233,362), Brazen Brazilian, p, 1:51.2 -’23; BT1:50 ($192,805), and The Good Doctor, p, 1:50.1f -’24; BT1:49.4f-’24 ($151,350).
Thong’s final foal, a Bettor’s Delight filly, has been placed with another mare and is doing well.
“Thong will be missed,” said Burke. “She has a great looking Pebble Beach yearling, named Speedo King, that we will sell in the fall, and a 2025 Bettor’s Delight filly that is a beautiful and athletic foal.”
