Harness racing fans keen to see Captain Ravishing (Captaintreacherous) were not disappointed when the brilliant pacer led all the way to take out the Ultra Air Free For All at Menangle Park on Friday night.

Confidently supported into favourite the wide draw proved to be no barrier for Captain Ravishing.

From the release stablemate Fire Fox showed speed to take up the running over the improved Major Perry. Jack Callaghan on Captain Ravishing allowed the six year old stallion to balance up and then within 400 metres he cruised to the lead with an opening quarter of 26.7 seconds.

Callaghan gave Captain Ravishing a breather as the field settled into Indian file.

However with a third quarter of 27.8 seconds Captain Ravishing was running his rivals off their legs. Fire Fox come off the rails to give chase but Captain Ravishing was well clear and at the finish he had just under 4 metres to spare over Major Perry who edged out Fire Fox for second placing. In winning Captain Ravishing ran the mile in 1.50.8.

Throughout his career Captain Ravishing has raced amongst the best but at times he has not been at his best and has had a number of issues.

Captain Ravishing’s last win was when he took out the Navy Cup at Gloucester Park last November and it was expected that he would stay over there to compete in the big classic features.

But in a change of plan he was sold and for new owner Mick Andreadis he is now in the powerful Jason Grimson stable. Last start he was seventh in the Miracle Mile behind Don Hugo when he was well back and never looked a likely chance.

Now with Grimson, Captain Ravishing will no doubt be improved. If he stands up to the campaign he will be a contender for this year’s Inter Dominion series in Brisbane in July as well as other features prior.

Major Perry battled on well and he looks in contention for a future free for all while Fire Fox should be close to winning a race in similar company.
