Five Crowns (Bettor’s Delight) proved he was a tough customer in winning heat three of the Alabar Southern Supremacy Stakes at the Wyndham Harness Racing Club meeting at Young Quinn Raceway yesterday.
Driver Blair Orange eased the three year old off the gate from his outside draw as Captain Amore took up the running. Favourite Captain Commodore, came off the inside and took over with a mile to run. At the 1200 metres
Orange got a run up three wide behind Here’s Johny and decided to carry on to the top.
“I just thought it was too far from home to sit parked. I just waited until they eased up a fraction to put him in the race. I really had to earn the front. He’s such a genuine horse and lucky he had a wee bit left,” Orange said.
At the end of the 2400 metres the Mark and Nathan Purdon trained gelding was too strong, beating CC Arden by a length and a quarter with Captain Commodore half a head back in third. The fourth runner Flashpoint, was five and three quarter lengths back in third.
FIVE CROWNS REPLAY
The winning time was 2-56.2.

“He’s just got better from two to three. His attitude is going to take him a long way. He hasn’t finished winning yet.”

Meanwhile Rock N Bust (A Rocknroll Dance) won the last race, capping off a good day for Steve and Amanda Telfer.
They won the feature race – the Macca Lodge Kindergarten Stakes with Sonofamistery, (Sweet Lou) and Treasure Cove (Captaintreacherous) won the third race. All were driven by Tim Williams.
