The Light Speed (Moon Beam) and trainer-driver Guy Gagnon continued their dominant harness racing form on Sunday, April 20, securing their third straight win at the top level in the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Pace at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
Sent off as the 2-5 favourite, The Light Speed got away fourth as Tignanello (Michel Lagace) took the lead off the gate and set a hot opening quarter in :26.2. Full Horse (Ryan Guy) was the first to make a move, pulling first-over, with The Light Speed following the cover through a half in :55.2 and three-quarters in 1:23.1. Tignanello clung to the lead around the final turn as Full Horse began to fade, but The Light Speed surged three-wide and unleashed his late kick. Down the lane, The Light Speed powered past the field to score in 1:52.2 by a length. Early Action (Robert Shepherd) closed strongly for second, while Light The Torch (Pascal Berube) rallied from the back for third.
