The win by Share A Dream (Art Major) today at the Invercargill Harness Racing Club meeting came as welcome relief for both his trainer Tyler Dewe and driver Mark Hurrell.
Both have experienced a lean patch. Dewe’s last winner was at Winton in late February and Hurrell’s most recent success was in the middle of March.
“We’ve been waiting to hit the winners circle for a couple of months now and it’s very rewarding that we got there,” Dewe said after Share A Dream cleared out to win by four and a half lengths at Ascot Park.

Dewe has had the gelding in his stable since last month after he qualified as a two year old and initially raced from Regan Todd’s stable.
“I got this horse when Graham Hand joined the team. He’s got a half share, and the other half is Glenys and Phil Kennard. He always showed a bit of ability but got an injury as a three year old and was put out for twelve months. They decided to send him down and we’re here now (with the win) after four starts.”
Dewe is blaming himself for the five year old’s early form for the stable.
“The first two starts were trainer error. We thought he was ready to win first up after he’d had two workouts, but obviously he wasn’t. We got his gear sorted and he probably wasn’t ready after having that long layoff. We saw a really good run last week. I clocked him to run his last 400 in 26.8.
Dewe said Share A Dream is thick winded – typical of the stock of Art Major.
“He doesn’t like an overcheck and he tucks his head in, so I put the ACD on him for a bit of support. It’s helped him a lot. He’s fit and looking good now.”
Dewe who initially trained at Ascot Park now trains at Winton where he has sixteen boxes on ten acres.
“It’s a lovely facility but it’s taken a bit of doing up. A big thanks to the Winton Club and my staff for putting long hours in to get the place in tip top order. There’s nothing like being in your own space. There’s good privacy and I think Winton is the best track in New Zealand.”
