Cool For Cats (Always B Miki) came with the last run to score an upset win in last night ‘s $70,000 Group Two Gallagher Insurance Delightful Lady Classic at Alexandra Park.

The Queens Gambit lead for most of the race and halfway down the straight Australian visitor Ripples got to the front but the Robert and Jenna Dunn trained Cool For Cats in the hands of John Dunn came with the last run to get the call by a nose.

“She’s got better and better racing our way down home but got hanging at the wrong time. We took a gamble (to bring her to Auckland and race right handed). It’s great for Nigel and Brenda (Armstrong) and Westview Racing. They put a lot into the industry and to get a reward like this on the big stage is even more special,” John Dunn said.

The winning time was 2-03.3.

As with the Cardigan Bay Stakes, the result proved that talent on the racetrack doesn’t always come from the higher priced yearlings. Cool For Cats cost only $14,000.

John Dunn told Trackside viewers that it’s taken a team effort by Diamond Racing to manage the two year old. The filly still wears non-removable ear plugs.

“She could have gone the wrong way at any time, this horse. With racing she’s held it all together so far.”

Cool For Cats is owned by a large group of owners believed to number over 400.

Earlier in the night junior driver Riley Harrison who works for Diamond Racing, scored the biggest win of her career when she drove Frazzled (What The Hill) for Robert and Jenna to win the What The Hill @ Woodlands Northern Trotting Oaks.

Harrison got Frazzled into the one one early and then let her loose inside the last 400. She mastered leader Habibti Pat, going on to win by two lengths.

Her winning time of 2-45.1 was just outside the race record of 2-45.0 held by 2023 winner Walkinonsunshine.
