My General Lee Set to Stand at Stud in South Australia – A Major Boost for Local Breeders

My General Lee

South Australia’s harness racing breeding industry has received a significant boost with the addition of My General Lee to the stallion ranks. The well-bred son of Art Major will stand the upcoming season at Bellmoure Park Stud, located in Sampsons Flat and operated by Mario Borg.

“He’s exceptionally well-bred, and we believe he’s perfectly suited to enhance the local breeding scene here in South Australia,” Borg commented.
“We’re very fortunate that Darren Xerri of Sloys Company has chosen to support breeding in this state. They could have stood him anywhere, but it’s to our benefit that he’s coming here.”

Renowned breeder Gary Crocker was also instrumental in bringing My General Lee to South Australia. “Gary suggested he would be a good fit for South Australia, and he did most of the background work,” Borg said. “His relationship with Xerri’s at Sloy Holdings led to us standing this exciting young stallion.”

Already proving his worth at stud, My General Lee is the sire of four runners – all winners. His progeny include:

Sara Ta Sloy – 7 wins to date, The Greek General – 5 wins, The Country Sheriff – 3 wins and Tony’s Dream, a highly promising two-year-old filly who scored a debut win at Newcastle and followed up with a fourth placing in the Group 3 Pink Bonnet.

A member of one of harness racing’s elite families, My General Lee boasts a pedigree that speaks volumes. He is by the legendary Art Major, and out of My Ami Lee (by Safely Kept), a broodmare of distinction. My Ami Lee is also the dam of Louvre 1:54.5 ($402,665) – Winner of 16 races including the Group 1 NSW Breeders Challenge at both two and three, Miss Hazel 1:57 ($310,063) – A 15-time winner, including victories in the Group 1 Victoria Oaks and Ladyship Cup, Renaissance Man 1:53.1 ($297,904) – Winner of the SA Derby and NSW Sires Stakes and now a successful sire, and Miss Brazilian – Unraced but a two-time NSW Broodmare of the Year.

The strength of the family continues through My General Lee’s granddam Cosmophylla, who produced nine winners, including Fourwing Sweepa 1:53.2 ($152,656), Key To Freedom 1:53.4 ($134,508),Prince Benji 1:55.3 ($255,998) – Group 3 winner.

Cosmophylla is also the granddam of Ravishing Girl, dam of the current pacing sensation Captain Ravishing.

Belonging to the esteemed N40 – Flora by Berlin maternal family, My General Lee shares lineage with champions such as Gumdrops (G1 winner), Auckland Reactor (over $1 million in earnings), Leyoro (1962 WA Pacing Cup winner and leading Australian sire in 1979 & 1980), and Peter Mac, a New Zealand champion.

His progeny will be eligible for major juvenile and age-restricted series, including the Southern Cross, Vicbred, Breeders Crown, and Bathurst Gold Crown.

The arrival of My General Lee at stud marks a new chapter for South Australian breeders—one filled with opportunity and potential.
