Zapaca wins going away

Zapaca (Frank Affrunti) captures the featured $5,500 trot at Vernon Downs on Saturday (June 14).

Zapaca ($7.50) went straight to the front and led to the quarter in :27.0.  He slowed things down with :30.0 second quarter to be first to the half in :57.0.  He cruised to three-quarters in 1:26.0.

As they reached the stretch Zapaca found another gear and made it a race for second.  He won going away in 1:55.0.  Match My Miracle (Jimmy Whittemore) won the battle for second.  Ladyyouaregorgeous (Leon Bailey) finished third.

Zapaca is an 8-year-old gelding by Yankee Glide.  He is owned by Devan Flood and trained by Gary Gibson.  It was his first win this season.  He now has 19 career victories.
