Bits and Bridles

Pacing filly Arrive (Captaintreacherous) trained by Chantal Turpin is one of the rising stars in the Queensland three year old ranks and she has strong roots in Southland.

She’s out of Washington VC mare Washington Lass which had ten starts for her Wyndham breeder Ian Hunter before she was sold to Australia.

Washington Lass won nine races in Australia before carving out a successful career at stud for New South Wales breeder John Polson.

At stud she’s left Blacksadance and Big Wheels both by A Rocknroll Dance who have each won 28 races; Awaywego (Sunshine Beach) the winner of 17 and Attachment (Sunshine Beach) who’s won 12.

Both Blacksadance and Big Wheel have won Group One two year old features.

Arrive has won six of her eleven starts including the Group Three QBred Breeders Classic Final for three year old fillies.

She’s expected to race in the upcoming Queensland Oaks on 19th July where she’ll face another filly with strong Southland connections in Captains Mistress.

Our Pinocchio’s win at Wyndham yesterday marked the 108th winner for the highly successful Griffins Syndicate.

The groups first winner was Rugged Cross at Ascot Park in April 2011 trained by Phil Williamson.

Williamson has now trained 55 winners for the syndicate.

The groups most successful trotter has been Majestic Man which won 24 races and $855,545.

The Interdominion Championships Series in Brisbane is fast approaching.

The first series was held in Perth in 1936 and saw Victoria mare Evicus win from Logan Derby using a ludicrous points system.

Evicus ran second in all her heats and in the final while Logan Derby won three of his heats and the final.

Next month will be the seventh time the Interdominions have been held in Brisbane. The others were in 1972 (Welcome Advice), 1977 (Stanley Rio), 1986 (Village Kid), 1993 (Jack Morris), 2001(Yulestar) and 2023 (Leap To Fame).

The Ashburton Trotting Club’s Labour Day meeting continues to grow in stature.

A new open three year old pace has been added to the twelve race programme with eight feature races now on the card.

The time honoured Ashburton Flying Stakes, Ashburton Trotters Sprint and Hambletonian plus heats of the Nevele R Fillies Series, Sires Stakes heats for two year olds and a Ladies Sprint make up a day full of highlights.
