Three year old harness racing colt Fate Awaits (Always B Miki) became the first of his age group to win a Rising Sun when he finished with a perfectly timed burst to take out the $300,000 Group 1 Racing and Sports Rising Sun at Albion Park on Saturday evening.

At the start stablemate Path to Greatness driven by Grant Dixon booted up on the inside to hold out Dele Row.

Trista Dixon on Fate Awaits from the inside of the second row followed up to take the trail behind the leader. The well fancied three year olds Hesitate and Rubira didn’t show a great deal of speed and dropped back to the rear of the field. .

Jack’s Ultimate Fury who gained a run as an emergency went around the field at the same time as favourite The Janitor whose driver Pete McMullen raced up to sit outside the leader.

Path To Greatness come off the rails in the home straight just as The Janitor seemed to get the better of the pack and Fate Awaits darted through to grab a last gasp win.

The Janitor having done a power of work outside the leader was unlucky and he may well gain an invitation in the $2 million Eureka at Menangle Park in early September.

Jacks Ultimate Fury also finished strongly to take third ahead of the tiring Path To Greatness.

The win was Trista’s first success in a Group 1 event and she was delighted following the event.

“It’s very special to win with him. He certainly wanted to race. He had a great trip but he was here to go.”

“It was close all the way down the straight but I knew he had it in him. He was so super strong.”

“We’ll aim for the Derby and I’m sure he’ll handle it well.”

The Queensland Derby is shaping to be a keenly contested race and the $150,000 Group 1 feature will be staged on Inter Dominion Grand Final night on 19 July.
