Tisbury trainer Kirstin Green continued her rich vein of form when she bagged a treble at Winton today.
She’s now trained eleven winners since the beginning of June.
The day got off to a perfect start when debutant Mor Moonlight (One Over Da Moon) overcame an early break to come down centre track, winning by one and a quarter lengths.
The three year old filly is raced by good stable clients Tom and Julie Kilkelly, Jason McMath and Alan Dennis.
“It’s the old thing. You never want to win first up with a trotter. You’d like them to learn a bit but she’s got a wee bit of ability so that got her over the line,” Green said, adding, “She’s only a three year old and still has a bit of growing to do. She can get a wee bit pacy in her gait so there’s still a fair bit of improvement to come. She’s shown she’s got a good engine, she just needs to put the other bits in play.”
Mor Moonlight is out of Leithe Ellen, a half sister to The Fiery Ginga and The Fiery Filly. The Kilkellys have had a remarkable run with this family, racing Smokin Bandar and Fiery Bandito both of whom are out of The Fiery Filly.
Green trains Fiery Bandito He won six races for the stable last year and ran second to Bet N Win in the Ashburton Trotters Sprint. He last raced in the New Zealand Trotting FFA in November finishing ninth.
“He cracked a pastern and they tell me normally that’s not a bad thing compared to a soft tissue injury. The time away hasn’t harmed him. He’s had a fortnight in the cart now and touch wood everything seems to be good. I’m having a holiday next week and when I get back we’ll start going out to the beach. Fingers crossed we can keep him sound.”
The stable’s second win came in the next race when Major Burn (Art Major) in the hands of Blair Orange, finally broke maidens after six minor placings in nine starts.
“We think he’s been cutting his wind off so I said to Blair just to let him go to the top, run along and see what happens. Blair said the horse never tightened the rein and never made a noise.”
Consistency was also rewarded when Green’s trotting mare Emily (Imperial Count) won the $25,000 C&R Winter Rewards Handicap Trot.

Orange took her to an early lead before handing up to Our Pinocchio. Halfway up the home straight Emily got a gap and sprinted up the passing lane to win by half a length.

“Everything worked out perfectly for her and Blair drove her a treat. This time in she’s been so consistent. She deserved that and I’m rapt for her and the owners.”
The win was one of three for Orange and took him to over the $1.5 million stake mark this season.
