Outstanding local pacer The Janitor (Always B Miki)  justified the big opinion of his stable when he comprehensively defeated his rivals in the $53,040 Group 3 Wolf Signs Four Year Old Championship at Albion Park last night.

The Janitor was sent out solid favourite even from the second row draw with good support for Major Hot from the pole draw and Air Express from the Dixon stable.

THE JANITOR JUL 19 REPLAY

The race was on at the start with Major Hot, Ravishing Slot and Our Goat all making an early charge for the lead.

Driver Pete McMullen patiently allowed The Janitor to settle back from his second row draw and no sooner had the field settled down he sent him around with a scorching burst to take up the running with virtually no opposition.

From then on The Janitor cruised along in front. Major Hot who had then taken a sit behind the leader momentarily looked to be a challenger but McMullen let The Janitor go turning for home and he ran his last two quarters in 26.7 and 26.2 seconds to easily account over his rivals.

At the finish The Janitor had over eight metres to spare over Major Hot who held on for second with Royal Cruiser in third placing.

Trained by Chantal Turpin and raced by Craig Whiteoak, The Janitor has always showed a touch of class and his win was well deserved. Unfortunately as he is New Zealand bred he is not eligible for the $2 million Eureka at Menangle in early September.

The stable is undecided as to what they will do with their star pacer but he is likely to go for some of the richer races at Albion Park later in the season. He would be an ideal candidate for the $75,000 Group 2 Sunshine Sprint to be run in late November. Trainer Chantal Turpin has indicated that the AG Hunter Cup in early February could be a potential target.

“He’s easily the best horse we have and he can stay all day”.

Speaking of the Eureka promising four year old Our Luciano failed to flatter and could only beat one home. He’s much better than that but would need to improve significantly to obtain a spot in the big race.
