2YO Lazarus gelding stuns rivals in 1:51.3

Lexington, KY — On a sweltering evening in the Bluegrass, the Kentucky Proud Series Finals produced some sizzling results with a mix of harness racing favorites and longshots hitting the finish line first on Sunday (July 20).

The eight $50,000 finals for freshman and sophomores of both gaits and genders showcased the finest performers on the Kentucky Fair Circuit this season.

Prince Willie, Complete Stranger score in 2-year-old pace finals

Prince Willie (Lazarus N) announced himself as a serious contender with a powerhouse victory on Friday night, delivering a dazzling performance that left no doubt about his race track talent.

Drawn in the extreme outside barrier (10), driver Joey Putnam was forced to work early, settling Prince Willie midfield and facing the breeze for much of the opening half. But with 800 meters left, the son of Lazarus N—Princess Layla latched onto cover, tracking into the race before Putnam unleashed him wide on the final turn. The response was electric, Prince Willie rocketed past his rivals with a :26.3 last quarter, storming home to win easing down by a remarkable nine lengths in 1:51.3.

Don’t Shut Me Down (Wilfong) finished a distant second, with Fletchers Field (Bobbitt) rounding out the top three.

PRINCE WILLIE REPLAY

Prince Willie is trained by Roger Cullipher and owned by Ronald Mersky. He improved his record to 5-4-0 and has amassed $42,100 in his brief career.

Complete Stranger (Atlee Bender) scored a workmanlike victory in 1:53.3 over Queen Of Tells (Andy Miller). Lady Allure (Carson Conrad) followed the top two home.

COMPLETE STRANGER REPLAY

The daughter of Tall Dark Stranger-Annies Legacy is conditioned by Erv Miller and owned by Douglas Overhiser, Louis Willinger, D & M Trading Ii LLC and John Schwarz Jr.

Complete Stranger improved her record to 6-4-2-0 and she has earned $42,625.

Keep On Gliding, Deuce Pop visit the winner’s circle in freshman trotting events

Keep On Gliding (Geremy Bobbitt) soared in the stretch to spring the upset over favorite Giggity Goo (Marvin Luna) in 1:56.4. Your Best Day Ever (Joey Putnam) rounded out the trifecta.

KEEP ON GLIDING REPLAY

The daughter of You Know You Do-Keep On Loving You is trained by Jamaica Patton and owned by Gary Achenbach.

Keep On Gliding paid $18.10 to win.

Her record now stands at 7-2-5-0 and she has earned $$41,500 in purse money.

The public’s second selection, Deuce Pop (Todd McCarthy), held off favored August Salazar (Bobbitt) in 1:56.1. Magical Six Pack (Andy Shetler) was third.

The son of Tactical Landing-Atlantic Crest is trained by Randal Jerrell. Deuce Pop is owned by this trainer, Atlantic Trot Inc. and Steve Stewart.

DEUCE POP REPLAY

The colt’s record is 7-3-3 and he has placed $42,250 in the bank.

Deuce Pop paid $5.56 to win.

Whiskey Wow, Six Questions soar in sophomore trotting finals

Favored Whiskey Wow (Pat Curtin) overcame the 10-hole to stave off the late advance of Louise’s Legacy (Bender) in 1:52.2. Boots N Beer (Putnam) nabbed the show spot.

The son of Crazy Wow-Whimzical Britt is trained by Burlin Brower and owned by his conditioner.

Whiskey Wow’s record is 10-6-1-2 and he has amassed $62,610 in purse money.

The favorite paid $5.06 at the windows and is on a three-race win streak.

He paid $4.94 to win as the second choice.

Six Questions (Mike Simons) pulled off the biggest upset of the evening at odds of 89-1 with a victory over Chosen Prayer (Matt Krueger) in 1:55.1. Come And Gait It (Peter Wrenn) completed the trifecta, which for a $1 was $2,246.14 as none of the top three were under 23-1.

SIX QUESTIONS REPLAY

A daughter of Six Pack-To The Question, Six Questions broke her maiden with her triumph in nine trips to the post. Her record is now 18-1-34 and she has earned $47,530.

The filly is trained by her driver and is owned by Simons, Dona McDonald and A P Racing.

She paid $180.24 to win.

Perfect World, Boomerang take sophomore pacing finals

Perfect World (Cordarius Stewart) shocked the world at odds of 74-1 to defeat Flossy Girl Hill (Tyler Sheehan) by a nose in her respective division in 1:51.1. Favorite Princess Arch (Bender) came home third.

PERFECT WORLD REPLAY

By Captain Crunch and out of Gentleman’s Delight, the filly is trained by Martin Woodward and is owned by Elizabeth Roedl and Jacob Roedl.

Perfect World’s resume is now 24-6-3-5 and she has banked $69,765.

The filly paid $151.14 to her supporters.

Boomerang (McCarthy) outlasted Capt Karma (Curtin) by a nose to triumph in 1:49.4. Doc’s Buddy (Jerrell) crossed the wire in third.

BOOMERANG REPLAY

A son of Downbytheseaside out of Amherst, Boomerang is trained by Tony Dinges and is owned by Marvin Rounick.

The gelding now possesses a resume of 22-7-3-6 and has collected $113,411.

He provided his backers with $8.02 at the windows. The final time shaved nearly four seconds off his previous mark.

Racing will continue through Sunday (Oct. 5), following a Sunday through Wednesday schedule. Fans and horsemen can look forward to 5:05 p.m. post times on Sundays, and 1:00 p.m. post times on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays throughout the meet.
