Topsham, Maine …. Kevin Switzer, Jr remained the talk of Topsham on Monday (August 4) as Maine’s top-rated teamster continued his carousal at the fairground oval, following up Sunday’s three-win performance with yet another hat trick on Monday.

In fact, Switzer scored three consecutive top tallies on Monday, beginning with De Chirico (2:01.1-$2.60), who won a three horse battle for the early lead and then never looked back.

The win was the first of the season for the eight-year-old son of So Surreal who is owned by Lonnie Lefebvre and was one of two training wins on the card for Micelle Lefebvre.

“He’s a nice horse who has had a lot of unfortunate racing luck this year” Switzer remarked, “Everything worked out for him today and he responded perfectly”.

Switzer made an immediate return to the Topsham Fair winners circle after launching a determined first over charge into a stern :59.3 back-half with the David Sawyer owned and trainer, Airspinder (1:59.3-$3.60).

The win was the third of the season and 34th career bow for the nine-year-old son of No Spin Zone.

“He’s a good old horse” Switzer said, “He likes to have his drivers switched up sometimes and I haven’t driven him in a while. If you can get him engaged at some time in the mile he’ll generally give you something late”.

Switzer’s final encore came with the Richard Allaby owned and trained, Shaggy (2:02.4-$13.00). Sitting the pocket behind the post time favorite, Luckiestmanalive (Shawn Thayer), Switzer pounced with his charge in mid-stretch before pulling away to a half-length margin at the wire.

“We got away close and followed a hot pace and he had a pretty nice late kick today” Switzer concluded.

With two sessions completed at the Topsham Fair meeting, Switzer resides at the pinnacle of the drivers leaderboard. His six wins set the standard over his closest rival, Heath Campbell, who has amassed four top tallies to date.

Racing resumes at the Topsham Fair with a ten-race program beginning at 1:00 pm (EDT) on Wednesday (August 6). The program will feature three $11,000-plus splits of Maine Sire Stakes action for two-and-three-year-old trotters and will be preceded by three $11,000-plus non-wagering Maine Sire Stakes dashes, scheduled to start at 12:30 pm.

Wednesday is Senior Citizens Day at the Topsham Fair with patrons age 65 and older admitted for $5.00.

For those not able to come to the track, wagering on the Topsham Fair, as well as hundreds of harness and thoroughbred racetracks across the world, will be available on Hollywood Races at www.hollywoodraces.com as well as at all state of Maine off track betting parlors.

The video for Topsham’s races will be live-streamed on YouTube at www.youtube.com/@mainefairharnessracing and the live audio of Topsham’s cards will be available along the radio network of Mix Maine Media at The Mix 107.9 FM, True Country 93.5 FM, and THE Score 1160 AM as well as online at www.mixmaine.com
