She’s Crunchy goes four from four

She’s Crunchy (Captain Crunch) was supposed to be in Australia after being sold, but a delayed flight schedule proved to be a winner for her trainer Nathan Williamson.

“It gives us another week or two with her which is great,” he said after She’s Crunchy beat BB King at Wyndham today.

She’s Crunchy was the sole runner on the second row but when the field opened up Williamson was able to get her off the inside running line and on the back of favourite BB King. With 1600 metres to run driver Tim Willams took the favourite to the top, leaving She’s Crunchy parked, but Williamson pushed forward to take the lead with a lap to run.

Aware that the main challenger was on his back, Williamson let She’s Crunchy rip  from the top of the straight and she held out a fast closing BB King by half a length.

SHE’S CRUNCHY REPLAY

“I didn’t really want to lead. That wasn’t the plan from her draw. I was interested to know how she would go with a bit of cover but as it was we ended up there.”

The filly was bred by Williamson’s wife Katie and is out of Dakota Grace, a five win Bettor’s Delight mare.

“She’s been really good all the way through and kept stepping up so I’m thrilled with her.”

The win was one of three for the Branxholme reinsman who is one of eleven drivers driving for Blue September, raising awareness and funds for prostate cancer.

Williamson now heads to Addington with a team of five including two two year olds – Palladium and Off The Canvas, trotting mare Clotilde Wainwright, three year old Always Dreaming and classy entire Dreams Are Free.

“The two years olds will improve with the race. It’ll be interesting with the trotter who has drawn one under the light. Always Dreaming strikes a tough field, so he’ll need a wee bit of luck. Dreams Are Free has drawn wide but I’m very very happy with him. They’re all going up there to win races but will need a bit of luck on the night.”
