Horn Player’s speed blows them away

New South Wales visitor Horn Player (Sweet Lou) continued his good form of late when he led all the way to take out the $50,000 Group 3 VHRC Caduceus Classic at Melton on Saturday evening.

Horn Player with Nathan Jack

Trained by Brad Hewitt at Goulburn, Horn Player was driven by Nathan Jack who revved up the five year old to tackle the early lead. James Herbertson on Hes From Heaven was determined early on to hold out for the lead but Horn Player’s speed prevailed and he eventually crossed to the front.

Hes from Heaven settled behind the leader with favourite Keayang Tokyo further back on the rails.

Catch A Wave was snagged back to the rear.

Keayang Tokyo moved up to race outside the leader but that was going to make his task even harder.

Horn Player still maintained a healthy distance between himself and his rivals.

Hes From Heaven was looking for an inside run but War Dan Buddy and Dangerous were both issuing strong runs.

But Horn Player fought on doggedly and he held on to defeat the fast finishing War Dan Buddy and Hes From Heaven. It was an impressive mile rate of 1.51 for the 1720 metres.

War Dan Buddy lost no admirers with a fast finishing second.

Nathan Jack was satisfied after the race.

“He had to do a fair bit of work early to his credit he did get a cheap second quarter but when you go 26 seconds off the gate you need one. He didn’t surprise me you look at his Max Delight form, and his Menangle mile form they had him rock hard”.

Jack explained that this was a hit and run trip and he’ll return back to Goulburn tomorrow.

“I’m sure that the stable will be targeting some of the good races”.

They might bring Captains Knock and maybe Extreme Sea so I might have to put up my hand for the drive”.
