Summa Cum Laude Daughters Sweep OBC Filly Pace

Laude Da (Chris Page) made it two straight wins against Ohio bred with her front stepping victory in the Ohio Breeders Championship (OBC) for two-year-old filly pacers in Sunday (Sept. 14) action at the Delaware County Fair.

The freshman daughter of Summa Cum Laude won the opening division in 1:54.2.

Vanna By The River (Brett Miller) was 3/4 lengths back and Stride For Stride (Justin Irvine) another 3 ¾ lengths behind to rounded out the top three.

Laude Da is owned by Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi and Knox Services.

The second $72,250 division was also taken in 1:54.2.

It was Zoom Call (Dan Noble) breaking her maiden over Ima Beach Girl (Chris Lems) and Rose Run Bristol (Kayne Kauffman).

Zoom Call is owned by the ownership group of Jay Mossbarger, Hutchison Harness, Brett Hopper and SCP Stable. Steve Carter trains the Summa Cum Laude lass.

New Stakes Record in OBC Aged Pace

Normally in a three-horse field, speed gives way to strategy, but this year’s edition of the Ohio Breeders Championship for Aged Pacers was the exception.

Charlie May (Brett Miller) and Paris’s Dragon (Dan Noble) engaged in a speed duel past the opening quarter in :25.2.

Charlie May cleared to the lead and tripped the next two timers in :53 and 1:20.4.

Paris’s Dragon made a final attempt in the final turn, but the seven-year McArdle gelding drew clear by three lengths to lower the stakes record in 1:49.

Charlie May, who has earned $2.3 million during his career, is conditioned by Terry Di Cicco for owner/breeder Don R. Tiger.

Two Divisions of the OBC Aged Trot Held; Stakes Record Falls

The second $17,500 split, Jurassic Hattie (Brett Miller) took no prisoners and crushed her five foes by 8 lengths. The winning time of 1:52.1 established a new stakes record.

The four-year-old Volstead mare is trained by Stacey Van Huizen for Jerry M. Welsh.

Long shot Don’t Take My Keys (Austin Hanners) and Refined (Chris Page) completed the top three.

JURASSIC HATTIE REPLAY

Longshot (Chris Lems) cruised to a 1 3/4 length victory in the first division of the OBC for aged trotters.

The six-year-old Long Tom gelding went gate-to-wire in 1:54.2.

Spaaaanzano (Aaron Merriman) was a second and Guido Di (Brady Brown) rounded out the trifecta.

Long Shot is owned by the partnership of Wayne Mast, Jr. and Collam Racing. Scott Cox is the winning trainer.

Youth Driving Series Leg to Harvey Hershberger

Ys Do It Right received a perfect pocket trip from Harvey Hershberger to take the leg of the Terry Holton Youth Driving Series in 1:54.3.

The winner was pulled to the outside in the final turn and sprinted clear by 1 ¼ lengths.

YO DO IT RIGHT REPLAY

Due to a disqualification, Big Bad Whamo (Ranger Steck) was elevated to second and No Free Lunch (Braden Addis) advanced to third.

The Bettor’s Delight stallion is owned by Jose Cervantes and trained by Betty Clegg.

Ladies Driving Series Final is a Wild One

Mary Birkhold and Sp Dancinwiththestarz survived a four-way photo to take the final of the Spring Haven Farm Ladies Driving Series in 1:55.1.

Skyway Trooper (Jazmin Short) came up the inside for second and Fred’s Nightmare (Leslie Joyce) was third.

The winner is trained by Betty Clegg for owner Kimber Clegg.

Bresnahan Takes Fouts Memorial

Driver Johnathan Bresnahan, representing the Maine Amateur Driving Club, won the $5,000 Tim Fouts Memorial Standardbred Driving Championship.

Bresnahan steered Manny to a 1:53.3 victory. The winner is owned by Jessica Smith and trained by Randy Smith.

The event brings the top amateur drivers from around the country.
