Plucky mare Look Like Diamonds (Hes Watching) showed plenty of fight in holding off her rivals in the Nevele R Stud Pace at Melton on Saturday evening.

Back from an unsuccessful stint at Menangle where she found the company a bit too hot, Look Like Diamonds headed off by Little Lou I but then driver David Miles went for the lead and he was able to do so without doing too much work. Miles was able to steady the mare in the lead running leisurely quarters of 30.8 and 31.7 seconds.
LOOK LIKE DIAMONDS SEP 20 REPLAY
Favourite Sir Jimmy was eased back to the rear by driver Mark Pitt who was aiming for just one main sprint.
Sir Jimmy took off in the back straight on the final occasion with a sweeping run to the leaders. Little Lou I took the inside lane as it looked they would overtake Look Like Diamonds. But the mare fought back courageously and in a driving finish held off Little Lou I by a head with Sir Jimmy a close third.
David Miles stated after the race
“That was tough. Sir Jimmy headed me at the 150 metres and I thought I might have been cooked. She just pinged her ears back if you look at the lowdown reply, and she just wouldn’t let him go past her.”
“She’s got good gait speed. I said last week I was disappointed in my drive in Sydney. It probably put her in a bad line against those better horses but she beat Royal Cruiser home and he won the next week.”
“So I think when we have to take on those good mares I think she’s capable. When you can drive them tough it makes my job a lot easier that you can either put them in the race or let them sit back and come with one run. She’s in fine form and when they strike form you keep them going.”
“We got to try to find some classic races for her now that she’s going up in class. I’m so proud of her tonight.”
