Hasty Bid runs them ragged in 4 and 5YO Classic at Globe Derby

A clever drive by Danielle Hill was the telling factor in Hasty Bid (Bettors Delight) leading all the way in the $25,000 South Australia Harness Racing Club 4&5 Year old final at Globe Derby on Saturday evening.

Hasty Bid had put the writing on the wall when he finished a close second to Hezarockinroyalty in his Heat after leading. However he drew the pole in the Final and with a favourable draw punters installed Hasty Bid a firm favourite. In contrast Hezarockinroyalty was drawn on the second row and that was considered an issue against his chances.

HASTY BID SEP 20 REPLAY

Hasty Bid was able to hold out Clarendon Tribute with Buzz Bomb behind the leader. Delightful Tammy made a lightning run around the field from the back to go outside the leader but didn’t put any pressure on Hasty Bid who was able dictate the terms of the race.

Hezarockinroyalty was one out and two back but in the back straight Hill released the brakes and Hasty Bid cleared away with a winning break. Hezarockinroyalty started to make up ground as they straightened but he had given too great a start and Hasty Bid held on to win by just over two metres. Delightful Tammy who had to race outside the leader looked well beaten on the final bend but she battled determinedly to hold on for third.

Hasty Bid is trained by David Harding for his owner Lachlan Cormack and the gelding rated 1.59.2 for the 2240 metres.

Hasty Bid’s dam Cyclone Charlie was a useful mare who raced mainly in western New South Wales winning five races. Sadly she passed away and Hasty Bid is her only living progeny.

It was an excellent initiative for South Australian Harness racing to put this event with an attractive stake and it is hoped that the event can become an annual event. And it’s only one month away for Globe Derby to have their big night when they will stage the South Australian Pacing Cup, South Australian Trotters Cup, the South Australia Derby and the Golden Nursery for two year olds on October 25. It will be a cracking night for South Australian harness and it is hoped that there will be at least some interstate representation.
