From Legacy to Launchpad: Baring Bloodstock’s QBRED Reduction Sale Opens the Gate to New Opportunity

One of Queensland’s most successful standardbred nurseries is turning a page this week, as Baring Bloodstock launches its QBRED Reduction Sale — an online auction offering breeders rare access to a deeply curated lineup of mares in foal, and young stock bred for Queensland harness racing success.
Running September 23–25 via the Nutrien Equine platform, the sale marks a pivotal moment for the operation founded by Dean Baring — performance, pedigree, and a passionate belief in the future of Queensland breeding.
“We’ve spent more than a decade building these families,” Baring said. “This isn’t just a numbers game — every mare, every foal represents years of planning, selection, and belief in the QBRED system.”
The decision to scale back — at least temporarily — is rooted in personal priorities, Baring explains, but the sale represents a broader opportunity for the industry. Among the offerings are mares in foal to leading sires, well-bred yearlings & 2YO racing prospects , and with the first 7 seven lots eligible for over $500,000 in the Sunshine Stars Series. All young stock carry QBRED eligibility for 2025 and beyond, a hallmark of Baring’s long-term investment in the state’s harness racing future.
“It’s hard to let go, absolutely,” Baring said. “But we’ve always looked at this as a long game. We’ll be back in 2026 — but for now, this is a genuine opportunity for others to take the reins and chase their own dreams.”
The Baring Bloodstock broodmare band has long been known for its depth, with families that have produced Group winners, metro performers, and million-dollar earners. The catalogue includes black-type-producing mares, and proven crosses to top stallions — a reflection of the operation’s emphasis on both conformation and commercial appeal.
“These are the kinds of horses that rarely come on the open market,” Baring said. “Some have never been offered publicly before — they’ve been held tightly because they’ve consistently delivered.”
For buyers, the incentive is twofold: quality bloodlines and the ongoing benefits of the QBRED scheme, which continues to reward owners, trainers and breeders for investing in Queensland-bred talent.
As the sale goes live and bidding ramps up ahead of its close on Thursday, September 25 at 6pm AEST, the message from Baring is clear: while this may be a reduction, it’s also a launchpad — for new owners, new ambitions, and new chapters in the stories these mares and foals will write.
