Jilliby Ballerini blitzes them

Star mare Jilliby Ballerini (Majestic Son) continued her relentless run to the top when she outclassed her four harness racing rivals in the Group 3 $30,000 Community Bank Maryborough Trotters Cup at the Carisbrook raceway on Sunday afternoon.

In yet another demolition job, Jilliby Ballerini was settled back early from the mobile to be fourth early but driver Jason Lee wasted no time and he went around the field with two laps left to travel to head off stablemate Keayang Stuka.

From then onwards Jilliby Ballerini gave a copybook display and never looked like losing.

Her main rival this year’s Inter Dominion winner Arcee Phoenix settled behind Jilliby Ballerini. His driver Chris Svanosio must have been wondering whether he should take off at some stage when Jilliby Ballerini found the lead. However he decided to wait until the final lap. At one stage he was spotting Jilliby Ballerini at least 20 metres and that would have made his task all the more difficult given that Jilliby Ballerini can reel off exceptional fast quarters.

And that’s what the four year old mare did running her last two quarters in 28.1 and 27.3 seconds making it almost impossible for those giving her a tidy start to make up much ground.

With Jason Lee sitting quietly Jilliby Ballerini strode to the line just under 15 metres ahead of her stablemate Keayang Stuka with Arcee Phoenix a further two metres away third.

JILLIBY BALLERINI NOV 2 REPLAY

Jilliby Ballerini has swept all before her this season winning ten of her thirteen starts. At this stage she is New Zealand bound to tackle the Group 1 $400,000 Dominion at Christchurch on November 11 as well as the Group 1 $100,000 Trotters For All at the same track on November 14.

Arcee Phoenix who appreciates the spacious New Zealand circuit is also bound for Christchurch but on current form he will have a major task trying to turn the tables on Jilliby Ballerini.
