Beachbabe Crocker extends the remarkable legacy of Aratusa Lass

The sizzling 1:53.4 win by Beachbabe Crocker at Newcastle on Friday afternoon did more than showcase a talented youngster on the rise — it further cemented the lineage of one of South Australia’s most influential broodmares.

Proud owner and breeder, Walk Proud Pty Ltd (Gary Crocker) believes the filly could be something special.

“This filly may very well be the best of Aratusa Lass’ progeny since Major Crocker,”
Crocker said following the victory.

Beachbabe Crocker is the latest star to emerge from the incredible Aratusa Lass family — a lineage that continues to shape tracks across Australia and even internationally.

A bargain buy transformed into breeding royalty

Aratusa Lass was never touted as a future matriarch. Purchased for just $2500, the daughter of D M Dilinger and Classic Garry mare Fanciful was secured by Crocker and fellow Jay Tokin, acting on the recommendation of Shepparton trainer Ross Pike.

The pedigree certainly offered promise — her dam Fanciful produced seven winners from seven foals, while her only other filly, Marungi Babe, left three winners, including the $100,000-plus performer Smokin Tally.

Aratusa Lass stood tall in her own racing career, collecting 18 wins, including two at Moonee Valley. Yet her profound mark was made once she entered the breeding barn.

A flawless record — 10 foals, 10 winners

Crocker retained full ownership of Aratusa Lass throughout her broodmare career, and she rewarded that faith in astonishing fashion:

Major Crocker remains the headline act — his transpacific career only enhancing the family’s reputation. But his sisters, and now their daughters, are ensuring the dynasty remains front and centre.

“Aratusa Lass is due to foal to Catch The Fire any day now,” Crocker revealed.
“She’s booked to My General Lee after that, and that will more than likely close the book on her breeding career.”
