Alrighty brings back memories of Somethingaboutmaori in APG Silver Trot

Royally bred Alrighty (Skyvalley) scored probably his best win to date when he outstayed his rivals to take out the APG VicBred three year old Trotters Silver trot at Melton on Friday evening.

Alrighty (Stuart McCormick)

Known for making a number of mistakes during his career Alrighty was nursed back to the rear of the field by Kate Gath. Kyle Sugars on Ijustcalledtosay took the early initiative by taking the him around the field to take up the running. The other fancied candidate Sam Nien was also towards the rear of the field but he moved out in front of Alrighty at the bell to make the latter race three wide in the final lap.

Despite having had a much harder run, Alrighty moved past Ijustcalledtosay on the final bend and drew clear only to fight off a late challenge from outsider Dance Fighter who burst through the pack to lose by a neck with Ijustcalledtosay in third place. But it was a thoroughly deserved win by Alrighty.

Alrighty is from the unraced Ganymede mare Why Maori but her dam was the former outstanding trotter mare Somethingaboutmaori. Raced and trained by Bryan Healy throughout her illustrious career Somethingaboutmaori had a glittering record taking out such noted features as the Moonee Valley Trot Grand Prix, South Australia Trotters Cup, 2004 Inter Dominion Trotters Final and the Scotch Notch memorial.

ALRIGHTY NOV 28 REPLAY

In addition to Why Maori, Somethingaboutmaori has left the prolific winners Justanothermaori, Gus An Maori, ImaMaoriJet Central Otago and the very capable Aroha Koe who currently is proving to be more than a handy trotter.

Alrighty is also raced by Bryan Healy. Last December when the gelding won the Platinum Bred Two year old trotters final at Melton he showed that he was a well above average trotter.

Trained by Andy Gath Alrighty missed the Trotters Derby earlier on and although he still has a lot to learn he is sure to develop into a potential Group event winner . There is a lot to like at the way he shows fight in his races and staying looks to be in his blood.
