The dream run of trotting mare I Dream Of Jeannie continued at Ashburton today when she won the $60,000 Listed McKain Quality Construction Mobile Trot.
Trained by Robert and Jenna Dunn the win was her third in a row and her seventeenth in a 101 start career. Her first twelve harness racing wins were for Sam Smolenski.
“Three in a row is awesome. We didn’t see it coming. She hit a bit of a flat spot but since being at the beach, swimming and spacing her races out to every fortnight, yeah it’s been outstanding really,” part owner Kevin Sturgeon said.
The eight year old is raced by Sturgeon, Gail Lilley, Dianne Keith, David Currie, Alva McKinlay, David Neal, David Donaldson and Adam Donaldson.

“Sam was the one that said to take her out to the beach and that’s revitalised her. Since she’s been there she’s grown another leg and now she’s in foal she’s even going better. It’s been an unbelievable run lately. We’ll have a beer or two and enjoy ourselves and Sammy’s here.”
In today’s race driver John Dunn settled I Dream Of Jeannie in the last handful of runners. When Practical Magic began to make her run Dunn hopped onto the three wide train with Hidden Talent on his back. As the field straightened up for the run home I Dream Of Jeannie hit the front and it was game over.
I DREAM OF JEANNIE REPLAY
I Dream Of Jeannie’s (Pegasus Spur) winning margin was two and a quarter lengths from Hidden Talent (Bacardi Lindy) with Mavis Jones (Majestic Son) three lengths back in third.
The winning time was 2-03.1 a mile rate of 1-56.5.

I Dream Of Jeannie is her sire Pegasus Spur’s highest winning filly/mare and second highest stake earner behind millionaire trotter Speeding Spur. Her racing career is nearing an end as she’s safely in foal to Tactical Approach.
