Vale Greg Norman

The harness racing community is mourning the passing of Greg Norman at the age of 61, a Group 1 winning horseman whose dedication to the sport was reflected in his success.

Greg trained and drove his first winner in 1985, beginning a career that would span four decades. Over that time, he trained 577 winners, a remarkable achievement built on patience, consistency, and a deep understanding of his horses.

Among his standout performers were Group 1 Breeders Crown champion Tsonga, Southern Cross winner Belladona Girl, SA Trotting Cup victor Blue Conan, and SA Derby winner Aladdin — horses that showcased Greg’s ability to succeed at the highest level across different classes and conditions.

While the feature race victories were significant, Greg was equally respected for the way he went about his work. He was known as a genuine horseman who put his horses first, took pride in doing things properly, and earned the respect of his peers through hard work rather than self-promotion.

Greg’s contribution to harness racing extends beyond statistics and trophies. He leaves behind a legacy shaped by integrity, horsemanship, and the many relationships he formed throughout his career.

Deepest condolences to Greg’s family, friends, and all who worked alongside him in the industry.
