The influence of broodmare matriarch Larrakeyah Lady was on full display at Carrick on Sunday, with her family striking for a winning double courtesy of Beach Dancer (out of Dance Class) and the talented yet unpredictable three-year-old Enjoy Life.

A daughter of Windshield Wiper USA and Hot Foot, Larrakeyah Lady was originally purchased by Victorian breeder Peter Gleeson as an unbroken yearling, selected for her deep connection to the famed mare Tricks Pointer—a foundation producer whose female line has shaped generations of elite performers.
Larrakeyah Lady proved a more-than-capable race mare herself, highlighted by her victory in the 1989 Sires’ Stakes Final at Moonee Valley. But her true legacy has come in the breeding barn, where she has become one of the most influential broodmares in modern Australasian pacing.
From 10 starters she produced nine winners, and her daughters have continued the tradition, generating a remarkable list of Group 1 performers. Her standout son Safe And Sound won 33 races and amassed $995,606, capturing major features including the A.G. Hunter Cup, South Australian Pacing Cup, Kilmore Cup, and Australian Pacing Gold.

The family’s impact extends even further, with top-liners such as Ride High, Beauty Secret, Major Secret, Rocknroll Magic, Lovelist, The Pantheist, Out To Play, High Above, Always Hot and Treachery all tracing back to the great mare.
Sunday’s Carrick double by Beach Dancer and Enjoy Life is yet another reminder that the Larrakeyah Lady dynasty continues to thrive—still producing talent, still shaping the breed, and still leaving its mark on Australian harness racing.
