MacKenzie announces retirement from Red Shores

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE (Friday, February 6, 2026) – David MacKenzie, General Manager of Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park, has announced his retirement effective June 30th, 2026.

“David leaves behind a legacy of resilience and growth,” said Michael MacKinnon, Chief Player Experience Officer with Atlantic Lottery.  “In his six-plus years at the helm, he successfully led the Red Shores team through the unprecedented challenges of a worldwide pandemic and the recovery from a devastating hurricane. Under his leadership, the organization secured a landmark long-term partnership with Atlantic Lottery that established a $100,000 purse for the Gold Cup & Saucer and oversaw a multi-million-dollar renovation of the Charlottetown property. He also developed a strong working relationship with our horse racing industry groups.”

Before joining Red Shores, MacKenzie built a distinguished career defined by leadership and strategic vision in the public and private sectors. He previously served as the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Culture for the Province of Prince Edward Island and was the President and Chair of PEI 2014 Inc., where he led the year-long national celebration of the Charlottetown Conference’s 150th anniversary, a program that drove record tourism to the province. His executive experience also includes a transformative decade as Chief Executive Officer of the Confederation Centre of the Arts, where he significantly grew operating revenues and raised over $15 million for infrastructure.

“It has been a privilege to lead this organization and work alongside such a dedicated group of people,” said MacKenzie. “I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together. We have built a strong foundation for the future of racing and entertainment on PEI, and I look forward to seeing Red Shores continue to thrive.”
